Orthodontic treatment has changed dramatically in the last several decades. In the past, bulky metal braces were the only option if you wanted to straighten your teeth. Today, you can achieve a beautiful, straight smile with virtually undetectable Invisalign® treatment.
How Invisalign® Works
Invisalign® is an innovative orthodontic method that uses clear aligners to gently straighten your teeth and improve your smile. If Dr. Yum determines that you are a candidate for Invisalign®, he will take digital impressions of your teeth. Using an advanced computer program, he will design a series of clear aligner trays that will gradually shift your teeth into healthier positions. He can even display the designs on an exam room computer, so you will know what to expect during your treatment.
After Invisalign® technicians fabricate your clear braces, you will wear each one for about two weeks. The clear plastic trays will place a gentle force on your teeth to gradually straighten your smile. Treatment typically takes about 9 to 18 months, although this varies for each patient.
Why Choose Invisalign®?
Invisalign® offers a number of benefits, although subtlety is the most obvious advantage. The clear aligner trays will be virtually invisible, even to someone who is standing at a close distance. However, there are a number of additional benefits to this highly personalized treatment. These include:
Comfort: Invisalign® trays will exert less force on your teeth than traditional braces. Plus, unlike metal brackets, the smooth plastic will not irritate your lips and the inside of your cheeks.
Oral health: Because you can remove the Invisalign® trays, you can maintain thorough dental hygiene. Therefore, you will face a lower risk for discoloration and decay than you would if you had a bonded orthodontic appliance.
Diet: You can take your Invisalign® trays out to eat. Therefore, you can continue to enjoy all of your favorite foods.
Is Invisalign Right for You?
If you are an adult or teen with mild to moderate dental misalignment, you may be a good candidate for Invisalign®. This treatment can enhance the aesthetics of your grin. It can also treat most forms of malocclusion, including overbites, underbites, crossbites, and open bites. However, if you have particularly severe misalignment, Invisalign® may not be the right solution for your smile. Dr. Yum will determine your candidacy for clear braces at your initial consultation.
