  • Understanding the Basics of Dentures

Dentures are removable restorations, made up of a gum-colored plastic base and lifelike synthetic teeth. Your restoration will be custom-made from impressions of your dental arch, so they will fit securely and comfortably in your mouth. Dr. Yum and our partner ceramists will also examine the structure of your face to ensure that your dentures match your overall appearance.

There are two types of dentures:

    • Complete dentures: A complete denture can replace your entire upper and/or lower dental arch. These restorations will fit around your alveolar ridge, and you will use denture adhesive to keep them in place.
    • Partial dentures: These restorations are designed to replace several adjoining missing teeth. If you still have some remaining healthy teeth, you may be a good candidate for a partial denture. This restoration will also fit around your gum tissue, but it will also attach to the nearby teeth with small, hidden metal clips.

    Why Choose Dentures?

Dentures can greatly improve your quality of life. First, they can end the embarrassment of missing teeth, giving you a full, natural-looking smile. Additionally, dentures fill in your lips and cheeks. In this way, they can prevent a sunken appearance, and they can help you look significantly younger. However, dentures do not only offer cosmetic benefits. Your new teeth can also restore your healthy bite, allowing you to eat a more complete and varied diet. In many cases, you may also find that you can speak more clearly and smile without embarrassment.

    Are Dentures Right for You?

If you are missing all or many of your teeth, you are likely a candidate for dentures. Before providing your restoration, Dr. Yum will conduct a complete evaluation. At this time, he can explain more about the different type of dentures, and he will help you select the right type for you.
