• Back To School Time? Don’t Forget Dental Checkups

  • TOOTH DECAY IS THE #1 CHRONIC DISEASE IN CHILDREN. It’s estimated that 40% of children have some form of tooth decay before they even reach kindergarten. Alarming, isn’t it? But SO much of the problem is preventable through routine hygiene appointments.

At Redmond Dental Care, we want to start your school year right, by protecting your childrens healthy smile! Regular dental checkups and preventative dental care, which includes cleanings and fluoride treatment, provide children with “smile” insurance. Routine dental examinations allow us to detect problems that can be treated in the early stages. This helps prevent painful, chronic conditions and also saves money. When necessary, X-rays or radio graphs may be taken so that Dr. Yum can see how the teeth are developing and spot any hidden decay.

Dr. Yum has 20 years experience practicing dentistry and he has also taken a 6 month internship with Children Specialty Hospital!

Other measures we offer to protect your teeth from decay and other oral health issues include, dental sealants. A sealant is a plastic material that can be applied to the chewing surfaces of the premolars and molars. Sealants act as a barrier to protect teeth from plaque, a sticky film of acid-producing bacteria. Sealant applications can last up to 5 to 10 years, but we recommend getting them regularly checked and if needed can be reapplied.

Don’t wait until there’s a problem—even if your child isn’t complaining about discomfort. Tooth pain doesn’t usually exist until decay reaches the tooth’s pulp. At that point, it’s probably advanced and may require more extensive treatment. Good preventive treatment happens BEFORE there’s pain.
